For many young people, it is hard to imagine supporting the whole family all by themselves at the age of 20. However, senior student of International Trade Department Li Qinmei did make it. She took her father, who is disabled and unable to take care of himself, with her to college as long as she could go to classes.
The 20-year-old country girl from Zhucheng, Shandong province has experienced one disaster after another in her short life. Li lost her mother at three. Four years later, her father became paralyzed in a tractor accident. At 12, misfortune struck her again with the death of her grandmother. Since then she has been forced to shoulder all the responsibilities for her broken family. However, she didn’t give up her study and the misfortunes only sharpened her will. In 2009, she was admitted by our college, thanks to her good performance in the entrance exams. In order to take care of her father while going on with her study, she took her father with her to college. Despite all the difficulties, she has been awarded three first-grade scholarships and one second-grade scholarship in the past two years with extraordinary diligence and perseverance.
The college offered Li and her father a separate room on campus so that she could attend to him during breaks. On December 6th, the International Trade Department held a meeting at lecture room B2 to spread the loving story to Li’s fellow students and to call on them to learn from her. The meeting, chaired by Madam Han Shujun, head of the department, granted the students a valuable face-to-face opportunity to hear from Li her own story, and inspired everyone to love and care.
