SFTC Carries Out Online Teaching & Learning during COVID-19 Outbreak

In face of COVID-19, SFTC adjusted its teaching plan in the spring semester of 2020, and started online teaching & learning from February 17, 2020, in accordance with the guidance from MOE and the Education Department of Shandong Province.

To better facilitate the online teaching & learning, the Academic Affairs Office took various measures to ensure the online teaching carried out smoothly, such as opening a communication platform to help solving problems occurred in the teaching process, initiating a training program to improve SFTC faculty’s online teaching ability.

In order to provide a better online course learning experience for students, SFTC teachers are actively exploring and practicing online teaching models in combination with specific courses. Various online teaching platforms have been used, such as Tsinghua Online, Smart Classroom, Tencent Classroom, Class Group, Zhihuishu, etc. Multiple online teaching & learning modes such as "group chatting + teaching resource platform", "PPT + group vocal Q&A interaction”, “online live teaching and learning”. Case studies, video materials and extended readings are widely used in the on-line teaching to encourage students to think independently. New problems and challenges in related industry during the epidemic are debated and discussed, and new forms of homework and in-class quizzes are included in the teaching. The physical education teachers have recorded teaching videos and conducted on-line demos suitable for encouraging more in-door exercising activities so as to keep fit and lead a healthier life during the hit of the epidemic.

To deal with the internet connecting and online teaching platform operating problems, Emergency Plans for On-line Teaching Operating Incidents are made. In case of incidents, measures such as on-line teaching platform capacity expansion and initiation of alternative plans are taken in time to fully guarantee the smooth implementation of online teaching.

So far, some 365 on-line courses have been in full operation for 6,009 students from 136 classes.

SFTC has attached great importance to the quality of teaching. In recent years, many quality on-line courses have been developed through the combination of on-line/off-line teaching modes, which set a solid foundation to cope with the epidemic.

SFTC shall closely monitor the whole on-line teaching activities, and actively innovate in teaching modes to fully complete the teaching tasks in the new semester, even though on-campus teaching and learning may be interrupted.
