The 2018 yearly conference on Foreign Language Teaching in Vocational Colleges of Shandong Province, sponsored by the Advisory Committee of Foreign Languages teaching in Vocational Education of Shandong Province (the Committee), was held in SFTC on January 5, 2019. The conference aims to implement the spirit of the National Education Congress and to innovate foreign language education in Vocational Colleges of Shandong Province. Participants include Mr. Diao Jiandong, Vice Chair of the Committee, SFTC President, Mr. Wang Zhi, assistant director of the Advisory Committee of Foreign Language Teaching in Vocational Education, Dean of the International Academy of Culture of Kede College of Capital Normal University, Professor Liu Yongquan from International Languages and Culture Department of the Open University of China, Professor Wang Boran, Vice President from the Foreign Studies College at Northeastern University, Director of Institute of Foreign Language Studies, Professor Zhou Houcai, SFTC Vice President, Members of the Committee, staff from Qingdao Municipal Education Bureau, as well as over 300 foreign language teachers from over 170 vocational schools and colleges in the province.
Prof. Liu Yongquan and Wang Boran made keynote speeches on English teachers' thesis writing and publishing, and English curriculum standards based on core competence. Mr. Wang Zhi delivered a speech on Self-construction of English Teachers. Liu Xiaolan, SFTC teacher, special prize winner of the 8th SFLEP National Foreign Language Teaching Contest, Shen Lin from Shanghai Dazhong Technical School, special prize winner of 2018 Shanghai Information-based Teaching Contest, and Zuo Yinzhu from Qihe Secondary Vocational School, the first prize winner of 2018 National Secondary Vocational Schools Information-based Teaching Design for English Teachers, gave demonstrative classes respectively.
President Diao Jiandong concluded the meeting, saying foreign language education should be oriented towards the world and be integrated with national strategies such as "Belt and Road". He briefed the focus of the Committee in 2019, and encouraged young teachers to actively participate in the work and projects of the Committee to contribute to the foreign language education in Shandong Province.
